This place is AMAZING. My son and I had so much fun. The owners are extremely nice and personable. My son was one of the youngest kids in the arena and all the other kids were super nice and helpful. We will definitely be back.

Went for a 7 year old bday party. Honestly, I was a little jealous I couldn't play myself. Kids loved it. The owner was really nice to talk to and did well with the kids. Both my kids left wanting to host their next party there.

OUR STORY
Arena 5/9: Nerf arena will help families fighting pediatric cancer
Arena 5/9 is a Christian based business that came about due to our 3 boys love of all things NERF and our oldest son’s battle with cancer.
Mason spent 3 months at Children’s Hospital undergoing cancer treatment and was discharged on May 9, 2018.
We combined our boys love of the sport with Mas’ release day and Arena 5/9 was born!
A portion of our business will be going back to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital to support the families of cancer patients. God has been so good to us and we are excited for the amazing things that will come through Arena 5/9!
WEST HARRISON, Ind. (WKRC) – A cancer diagnosis is hard to deal with, especially if the patient is a child.
A local boy not only beat the disease, he did it all while smiling through his treatments. Now, his parents are turning his favorite hobby into a way to help others facing childhood cancer. Nerf Wars are the thing that Mason Richardson and his friends love. The 11-year-old is active and good at all kinds of sports, but last year, sports, school and everything else were put on the back burner.
“We were actually admitted on February 9th, and the next day we were told that it was Burkitt’s lymphoma and it had spread from his stomach to his chest,” said Mason’s mother, Melissa Richardson.
“Burkitt’s lymphoma, which is what Mason was diagnosed with, I never even heard of that before Mason was diagnosed,” said Eddie Richardson, Mason’s father.
What followed were treatments for cancer. The family spent from February to May at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. Even while Mason was getting better, he played with his Nerf guns. When he was released, his hometown of Harrison welcomed him in style with an escort while everyone lined the streets.
So, Mason’s parents decided to partner with MVP Sports, renting and transforming part of the space into a Nerf arena.
“We come here actually every Friday night for dodgeball. Dave and Dan, the owners here, they are amazing people, and they just allowed us to share the story with them, and they were on board just right from the beginning,” said Eddie.
The family decided to call the venue Arena 5/9, and that’s significant because May 9 of 2018 was Mason’s last day of chemo.
“Ten percent of the proceeds each month of whatever we bring in as a business will go back to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, and then it will also go to Make-A-Wish Foundation of Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana,” said Melissa.
What started as a hobby is turning into a way to give back to other families battling pediatric cancer. Mason beat it, and he’s hoping to share his blessings with others.
“Kid’s a fighter. He is one of the strongest individuals that I’ve ever had the privilege to know,” said Eddie.
